Comics Guaranty, LLC (CGC) found out about Hawthorne High School’s sophomore and junior art students attempts to organize their first annual Comic Book Convention to raise money for the school’s art program. Due to schedule conflicts, CGC was unable to take a booth at the show, but CGC happily donated an Action Comics #812 (Second Printing), an Ultimate Spider-Man #50 and a Wanted #1 (Silvestri Variant Cover) all CGC certified 9.8, to be auctioned off at the Hawthorne High School Comic Convention with all proceeds being donated to the art department.
"We thank CGC for it's wonderful generosity in donating the 9.8 books to our auction. Once again CGC proves what a class organization they are!" said Allan Rosenberg, the Hawthorne High Comic Convention Faculty Advisor.
“We know that by helping students, we are making a better future for everyone, so It is a real treat for us at CGC to be able to help Allen Rosenberg and Hawthorne High School’s art students raise some money for their art program.” said CGC grader Paul Litch. “CGC was glad to help and hopefully we will be able to do even more next year!” More information can be found in the following Press Release:

HIGH SCHOOLERS KICK OFF FIRST ANNUAL COMIC BOOK CONVENTION
Hawthorne High School to host special show on May 8, 2004
Sophomore and Junior high school students at Hawthorne High School will mount their first comic convention to help raise money for the school¹s art program on May 8, 2004.
Advising them will be art teachers Danielle Russo and Allan Rosenberg. Mr. Rosenberg was the founder and former co-organizer of the Ramapo High School Convention and currently sidelines as "Talent Coordinator" for Big Apple Conventions in New York City, making the Hawthorne show the first professionally run high school comic convention to be held in the suburbs of New Jersey.
As such, attendees can expect to find the same high level of talent and special features found in the conventions of major cities.
Comics Guaranty (CGC) donates 3 CGC certified comics to be auctioned off for the Hawthorne High School art department.

More than two dozen stars from the comic book industry will be in attendance, including Batman artist Tommy Castillo; Scooby-Doo artist Joe Staten; legendary creator of Dondi Irwin Hasen; Nickelodeon Magazine comics artist and Patty Cake creator Scott Roberts; Hero Gets the Girl author and reporter for the Asbury Park Press Mark Voger; and comics industry painter and instructor at New Jersey¹s Joe Kubert School of Comic and Cartoon Art Dave Devries; Milk and Cheese creator Evan Dorkin and editor of the Action Girl Sara Dyer.
Activities include comic art lessons, panel discussions, an anime theater and charity auction, proceeds from which also will benefit the Hawthorne High School art program.
Plus, area Dealers will be in attendance selling, trading, buying comics, toys, original art, anime, DVDs & Videos, non-sports trading cards, video games and more!
Hawthorne High School is ideally located at 160 Parmelee Avenue in Hawthorne, N.J., just 30 minutes outside Manhattan and accessible by bus and train. Directions can be found on MapQuest.
Admission is only $3 and the show’s hours are 10am to 4pm on May 8th.
