Defects Caused by Improper Pressing: Spine Indents

Because the spine is so critical to the grade of a comic, much attention is paid to it when pressing. Overly aggressive techniques can result in bad side effects like the pronounced bends shown in the pictures. One picture also exhibits a line of gloss loss about 1/8" from the spine line, another side effect common with dent removal. These enlarged spine indents are often visible through the CGC holder, but care should be taken not to confuse them with spine stress lines that can occur from bending a comic along the spine or manufacturing bends that are common with square bound books. In most cases, spine indents can be corrected with a proper pressing.
