Iconic CGC-certified Sports Illustrated Magazines Offered in August Heritage Sale

Several iconic issues of Sports Illustrated that are graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) are being offered in an upcoming sale. Online bidding is already underway for Heritage Auctions’ 2022 Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction, which will be held August 28, 2022.
One of the top magazines in the sale is a Sports Illustrated #v4 #25 (June 18, 1956; Mickey Mantle cover) graded CGC 9.0 (lot 53465). This is the first Sports Illustrated cover to feature Mickey Mantle and comes with the centerfold (pages 37-40) intact. It has a guide value or estimate of at least $25,000.

Another exciting offering is an incredible Sports Illustrated #v18 #23 (June 10, 1963; Cassius Clay / Muhammad Ali cover). This issue marked the first time that the boxing legend would appear on a Sports Illustrated cover. He would go on to hold the record for being featured on the most covers until Michael Jordan surpassed him. This issue is graded CGC 9.2 (lot 53537) and has a guide value or estimate of at least $25,000.

Other CGC-certified highlights in the sale include:
- a Sports Illustrated #v117 #8 (August 27, 2012; Mike Trout cover) graded CGC 9.8 (lot 53466) with a guide value or estimate of at least $15,000
- a Sports Illustrated #v96 #7 (February 18, 2002; LeBron James cover) graded CGC 9.8 (lot 53496) with a guide value or estimate of at least $10,000
- a Sports Illustrated #v70 #5 (February 6, 1989; Mario Lemieux cover) graded CGC 9.8 (lot 53728) with a guide value or estimate of at least $10,000
- a Carolina Basketball #1 (1981-82, University of Carolina) graded CGC 6.5 (lot 53720) with a guide value or estimate of at least $10,000
- a Sports Illustrated #v88 #17 (April 27, 1998; Kobe Bryant cover) graded CGC 9.8 (lot 54242) with a guide value or estimate of at least $8,000
- a group of four Green Bay Packers yearbooks (1965-1968) graded CGC 9.4, CGC 8.5, CGC 8.5, and CGC 9.0 (lot 54343) with a guide value or estimate of at least $2,000
CGC has certified more than 10 million collectibles, including comic books, trading cards, concert posters, lobby cards and magazines.
