Video game collecting is among the most exciting and fastest-growing collectibles categories. The nostalgia for early video gaming inspires the preservation of retro games, while the widespread appeal of today’s titles drives growing interest in modern collecting. CGC Video Games is bringing the best in expertise and protection, guaranteed, to establish confidence and trust across the spectrum of video game collecting.

Home of heroes

CGC Video Games is the latest division of Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), the world leader in the certification of pop culture collectibles, including comic books, trading cards, magazines, concert posters and more. Since 2000, CGC has certified more than 10 million collectibles, among which are some of the most valuable pop culture collectibles ever sold. The record for the most expensive comic book is held by a CGC-certified Superman #1 — it sold for an incredible $5.3 million — and multiple seven-figure and six-figure results are realized year after year.

CGC is part of the Certified Collectibles Group® (CCG®), which also includes global grading services for coins (NGC®), paper money (PMG®), sports cards (CSG®), stamps (ASG®) and memorabilia and estate items (CAG®). Since 1987, the CCG companies have certified nearly 75 million collectibles, adding immeasurable value and liquidity to the collectibles markets.

The best people backed by the best technology

CGC Video Games will grade games on a highly accurate and nuanced 10-point numeric scale, with letter grades for seals. Check out the grading scale here. Every game will be examined by a team of expert graders led by Matt McClellan and Jason Brassard, who bring more than four decades of combined experience to CGC Video Games. To ensure impartiality, CGC Video Games’ graders do not know the identity of a game’s submitter and are prohibited form buying and selling collectibles commercially.

Authentication and grading will be assisted by artificial intelligence (AI), which will automate many of the more time-consuming aspects of grading, such as attribution and measuring. The CGC Video Games graders will also be equipped with forensic devices and X-ray equipment to evaluate sealed games and the individual components of games, including boxes cartridges, discs, manuals and game-specific inserts, for hidden details and alterations.

“Collectors, especially those new to the space, often don’t realize how frequently games are manipulated or altered to create a more appealing package,” says Matt McClellan, Senior CGC Video Games Grading Finalizer. “Before we even start to evaluate condition, we look at authenticity, and the technology we’re using enables us to establish that games and their components are genuine, benefiting not only individual collectors but also the integrity of the hobby.”

The best protection plus the best display

After a game has been authenticated and graded by CGC Video Games, it is encapsulated in a holder that is sleek, crystal clear and more protective than any other option on the market. The CGC Video Games holder not only boasts specially designed corners that prevent damage to sealed games, but it also comes in a range holder sizes to accommodate multiple consoles.

As an added benefit, the CGC Video Games holders lock and stack together seamlessly, making it easy to store and display your collection. Another bonus (or an essential) — games are encapsulated with the correct orientation. No sideways games on display with CGC Video Games. For more on the unrivaled holder, go here.

“When the CGC Video Games team came to me with the holder, I was so impressed,” comments Steven R. Eichenbaum, CEO of CCG. “As you would say in gaming, it really takes collecting to another level. Adding in our experts and their genuine passion for this hobby, I am confident that CGC Video Games will elevate video game collecting to the place it deserves in the pop culture collectibles world.”
