What makes it special? This book is the first appearance and origin of the Shazam villain Black Adam.
Why is it interesting now? Black Adam made his big screen debut this year in the film “Black Adam” starring Dwayne Johnson, who had been circling the role for years. Johnson has been hyping this film as beginning a bold new era of DC films and promising “the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change,” referring to a possible showdown between Black Adam and Superman.
Did you know? Fawcett Publications created the hero Captain Marvel as a copy of Superman, and DC Comics sued to cease publication. In the 1970s, DC acquired the rights to the character and began publishing Captain Marvel comics themselves, which they later changed to Shazam to avoid confusion with Marvel Comics.
