Coming Soon: A New CGC Magazines Holder
Posted on 12/30/2022
Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) is excited to announce that an all-new CGC Magazines holder is coming soon. The redesigned and optimized state-of-the-art holder will provide a superior way to preserve magazines, with a vibrant display and increased protection.
The new holder will replace the original CGC Magazines holder, which can no longer be manufactured due to older equipment that is no longer supported. CGC is holding all magazine submissions until the arrival of the new holder and the necessary encapsulation equipment. Production is expected to begin in early February.
We sincerely apologize for the delay this might cause submitters, but we know that the new holder will be worth the wait!
CGC introduced grading and encapsulation services for magazines, including Sports Illustrated and Playboy, in 2009. Since then, the market has surged, with CGC-graded magazines selling for thousands of dollars.
In November 2022, a Nintendo Power #1 graded CGC 9.4 — one of the four highest-graded examples in the CGC Census — sold for $24,000. Nintendo Power was a bi-monthly magazine initially published by Nintendo of America from 1998 to 2007, then by Future Publishing from 2007 to 2012. The magazine offered video game news, features on upcoming Nintendo titles, strategy guides, outside advertising and more.
In October 2022, a Sports Illustrated #v4 #25 graded CGC 9.0 from June 18, 1956, featuring the very first Mickey Mantle cover, was sold for $27,600 in a Heritage Auctions sale. The words “Year of the Slugger” appear on the cover over the image of Mantle, who that year went on to be the American League batting champion, homerun leader, RBI leader, MVP and a World Series champion for the fourth time (of seven total, all with the Yankees).
