CGC-graded First Appearance of Joker in ComicConnect Auction

Posted on 2/24/2023

Batman #1 is among hundreds of CGC-graded comics offered in a ComicConnect sale being held March 13-17.

Some of the most iconic Marvel and DC comic books, graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), are now available to collectors in ComicConnect’s Event Auction #53, happening March 13-17, 2023.

Among the books in this sale is a Batman #1 graded CGC 2.5, with the first appearance of the Joker and Catwoman in the spring of 1940. This series was released just one year after Batman made his stunning debut in Detective Comics #27 and just after Robin arrived in Detective Comics #38. The image of the Joker was inspired by the 1928 film “The Man Who Laughs,” which featured a grotesque character named Gwynplaine played by Conrad Veidt.

Batman #1 is one of the most important and valuable books in the history of comics. An example graded CGC 9.4 realized $2.22 million in 2021.
