Goldin Offers CGC-graded Captain America Comics #1 in March Sale

Posted on 2/24/2023

The first appearance of Captain America is one of many CGC-graded Golden and Silver Age comics in Goldin's auction on March 8.

Many highly sought-after Golden and Silver Age comics that are graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) are being offered in Goldin’s Winter Comics, Video Games & TCG Elite Auction on March 8, 2023.

One highlight in the sale is a Captain American Comics #1 graded CGC 3.0 (lot 1). Featuring the first appearances of Captain America, Bucky and the Red Skull, this comic was published by Timely Comics (later known as Marvel) in 1941 by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon. Captain America remained popular with readers throughout World War II, but sales plummeted by the mid-1950s. The character was kept on ice until Kirby and Stan Lee revived Captain America for the Silver Age in Avengers #4 in 1963.

One of the greatest grails of comic book collecting, Captain America Comics #1 features an iconic cover of Captain America punching Adolf Hitler, which was re-created in the 2011 Captain America movie. The fourth-highest price known to be paid for a comic book was $3.12 million for a Captain America Comics #1 graded CGC 9.4 in 2022.
