If you’ve missed out on any of the summer conventions this year, Heritage Auctions is offering another chance to pick up some of your favorite signed books, certified and witnessed through the CGC Signature Series program. More than 300 signed books with the iconic yellow CGC Signature Series label are being offered in the Signature Series Comics Showcase Auction on September 7, 2023.
Among the items featured in this auction is a Wolverine #1 graded CGC 9.8 and signed by Chris Claremont (lot 81299). Known for having the debut appearance of Wolverine’s “Patch” persona, this is the first issue of Wolverine’s ongoing solo series introduced in 1988, following a limited series published in 1982. Claremont is renowned for his transformative influence on the superhero genre, including his legendary 17-year run on Marvel's "X-Men" series. There are 18,933 graded copies in the CGC Census, and this copy is surpassed by only 16: 15 in CGC 9.9 and one in CGC 10.
Also in this auction is a Batman #404 graded CGC 9.8 and signed by Frank Miller (lot 81024). This comic from 1987 begins Frank Miller’s famous “Batman: Year One” story, acclaimed for its gritty, realistic take on Batman's early years and for its exploration of the emotional and psychological aspects of the characters. The storyline has had a lasting impact on Batman's depiction in both comics and other media, influencing subsequent interpretations of his origin.
