CGC-certified Batman Comics Stand Out in ComicLink Sale

Posted on 11/20/2023

CGC-certified comics featuring Batman's earliest adventures are leading auction bidding.

Batman has been one of the most popular and successful comic book heroes for more than 80 years, and two Golden Age rarities certified by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) are inspiring lively bidding in a ComicLink auction that concludes November 28-30, 2023.

One of the most iconic superheroes in popular culture, Batman was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. The Dark Knight made his first appearance in Detective Comics #27, which was published by DC Comics in May 1939. The character quickly gained popularity among comic book readers, and Batman soon became a cornerstone of DC Comics' superhero lineup. The character is so popular, in fact, that his earliest comics always stand out in auctions — even in lower grades.

In this auction, a cover-only copy of Detective Comics #27 certified CGC CVR Qualified had already seen bidding surpass $75,000 a week before the auction. A Qualified label is used by CGC for collectibles that have a significant defect that needs a specific description or to note an unauthenticated signature.

Also in the auction is a Batman #1 graded CGC 1.8, which saw bidding surpass $50,000 more than week before the sale ends.

Other CGC-certified comics in this auction include:
