John Ostrander Joins CGC for an Exclusive In-House Private Signing Event

CGC welcomes the one and only John Ostrander!

CGC is excited to announce that the Signature Series team will be hosting an exclusive In-House Private Signing event with comic book writer John Ostrander! Ostrander is well known for co-creating Barbara Gordon’s “Oracle” persona as well as the modern Suicide Squad team which the 2016 and 2021 DC movies are based on. He has also had an impressive run on Star Wars for publisher Dark Horse Comics.

When longtime friend and renowned editor Mike Gold co-founded First Comics, he gave Ostrander his first assignment, a back-up feature in the first issue of Warp. This was followed up with three more back-up features, then he was given the assignment of taking over the writing of Starslayer, which creator Mike Grell had brought over from Pacific Comics. As a back-up feature in Starslayer, Ostrander created the comic and series Grimjack. Nine months later, Grimjack became its own title. With Del Close, he also created the back-up feature, Munden’s Bar.

When Gold moved to NYC and DC Comics, he brought Ostrander with him. His first DC work was plotting Legends (scripted by Len Wein) which was the first company wide crossover after Crisis on Infinite Earths. Spinning out of this was Suicide Squad, which Ostrander was already developing with editor Robert Greenberger and went on to collaborate with his late wife, Kimberly Yale, later on in the run. At DC this was followed with runs on Firestorm, Spectre, Hawkworld, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, JLA: Incarnations, small runs on different Batman titles including Seduction of the Gun and Gotham Nights (I and II), Wasteland, Manhunter (which was also cowritten by his late wife), The Kents, and other assorted one shots and titles including Oracle: Year One

Ostrander also found work at Marvel, including X-Men/Brood, X-Man, Heroes for Hire, Quicksilver, Blaze of Glory and Apache Skies.

At Valiant Comics, he did runs on Magnus, Robot Fighter, Rai and the Future Force, and Eternal Warrior.

At Dark Horse comics Ostrander did a run in their superhero line with Into the Vortex, but he is most remembered for his ten year run on Star Wars. He worked on the series Star Wars: Republic, Star Wars: Legacy, Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi, Star Wars: Jedi, Star Wars: Agent of the Empire, Star Wars: Purge, a Star Wars Boba Fett one shot and other assorted Star Wars one shots.
