Posted on 8/13/2024

Learn more about this massive collection in the upcoming August ComicLink Featured Auction.

Lifelong collector-dealer Ed Savitt (popularly known as “Crazy Ed”) is putting his collection on the auction block! This is the culmination of Ed ‘s 60+ personal and 35+ business years in the comic book hobby. This impressive collection will be auctioned by ComicLink, starting with highlights placed to the ComicLink Summer ComicLink Featured Auction from the Superman, Action Comics, Batman and Detective Comics title runs. Additional offerings from these and other titles within Ed’s collection will follow in other upcoming ComicLink auctions.

“It’s been quite a journey watching Ed assemble such an impressive collection of CGC-certified comics over the years, particularly the infamously tough period of '50s DC,” states CGC president Matt Nelson. “We’re proud to identify his collection with a provenance on the CGC labels! Even though there’s some sadness for any collector reaching the end of their journey, the market will rejoice in having a shot at these beauties in the upcoming ComicLink auctions.”

Comic books from the collection bear the CGC label identification, “From the Collection of “Crazy Ed’s Comics” and can be found easily on the ComicLink site using the simple keyword search: crazy ed. ComicLink has been adding more comic books from the Crazy Ed collection to upcoming auctions on a near-daily basis.

Highlights of Ed’s collection:

For years, Ed has held a CGC registry set ranking within the Top 10 for each of what he refers to as the “Big Four” DC titles, including:

Superman: #4 ranked CGC registry set for the legacy run (the complete collection) out of 341 competing sets.

Action Comics: #1 ranked CGC registry set for issues #1-#500.

  • Top Registry Set 2021-2024 (4 years)
  • Also, the top-ranking set for the legacy set, including the entire Action Comics run.

Batman: #8 ranked CGC registry set for the legacy run (the complete collection) out of 403 competing sets.

Detective Comics: #6 ranked CGC registry set for the legacy run (the entire collection). Held the Top ranking for years for issues 201-300 and 301-400.

Josh Nathanson, ComicLink’s Founder and Managing Director exclaimed: “I am excited that Ed has honored ComicLink as the exclusive auction site for his collection! Ed has been buying select comic books like crazy for about 20 years on ComicLink.com! Throughout that period, he has taken the opportunity to not only fill in his runs for the sake of completeness, but also to improve upon them whenever a nicer copy matching his criteria became available for him to upgrade to. The result of this painstaking dedication is a collection of impressive, high-quality runs of many titles. Ed paid attention to acquiring high-grade examples of the Silver Age DC runs. As a result of his upgrading prowess, Ed also has accumulated several duplicates in his collection, and singles and duplicates alike will be offered within upcoming auctions.”

Steve Borock, ComicLink’s Senior Consignment Director shared, "I've worked with Crazy Ed for over 20 years... his boundless enthusiasm for the heroes and the stories motivate him to share his detailed knowledge... which is considerable and his is certainly one of the top DC collections I've ever encountered for sale!"

Along with some of the certified comic books sold at auction, Ed will be including a complimentary “collector packet” which will include a free reader copy, illustrated notes about the issue, and a provenance certificate.
