CGC Comics Registry Featured Set: Toddfather Covers
Posted on 9/3/2024
This month’s CGC Comics Registry set celebrates one of comics’ most iconic and popular modern artists, Todd McFarlane. The Toddfather Covers set by CGC Comics Registry member ComicGuy403 seeks to collect every comic that features McFarlane’s cover art.
Todd McFarlane is a renowned Canadian comic book artist, writer and entrepreneur, best known for his influential work in the comic book industry during the late 1980s and 1990s. He gained widespread recognition for his dynamic and highly detailed art style, particularly during his time at Marvel Comics, where he worked on “The Amazing Spider-Man.” McFarlane's rendition of Spider-Man became iconic, especially for his redesign of the character's webbing, which became known as "spaghetti webbing,” and the introduction of Venom.
In 1992, McFarlane co-founded Image Comics, a groundbreaking independent comic book publisher that gave creators more control and ownership of their work. There, he launched his own series, “Spawn,” which quickly became a massive success and remains one of the longest-running independent comic books. Beyond comics, McFarlane expanded his influence into other media, including animation, film and a successful toy company, McFarlane Toys, which revolutionized the action figure industry with its highly detailed and articulated figures.
McFarlane often joins us for CGC Signature Series events.
