Posted on 10/16/2024

An October auction includes grails and other very rare books that were part of collector Christine Farrell's complete collection of every DC Comics issue published until 2003.

Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) was honored to certify thousands of comics from the amazing collection of Christine Farrell, which are being given a provenance of Christine Farrell Complete DC Collection. This recognizes its place in comic book history as one of the most comprehensive collections of DC Comics ever achieved.

Many comics from this collection are offered in the Christine Farrell Complete DC Collection auction at Heritage Auctions on October 25-26, 2024. Some of the CGC-certified comics in this auction include:

This remarkable collection, which spans the entire publishing history of DC Comics from its earliest titles to modern-day publications, is now recognized with a prestigious CGC provenance designation, adding a formal seal of authenticity and ensuring each piece is forever linked to this historic assemblage.

Christine Farrell, a private collector from the northeastern United States, spent decades building this extraordinary collection. Her interest began with Superman and Supergirl books but soon expanded to include every single DC Comics title ever published — from superhero icons like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman to lesser-known genres such as romance, war and humor comics. Farrell’s collection is the most comprehensive of its kind, encompassing every era of DC’s history, from the Golden Age to modern times.

What makes this collection truly unique is the story behind its acquisition. Farrell amassed most of these books through traditional means: visiting comic stores, attending conventions and networking with collectors from across the country. Her meticulous search even extended to the acquisition of obscure and rare issues such as the Fat and Slat Joke Book, Girls’ Love Stories #56 and the elusive Cancelled Comic Cavalcade — a two-volume set produced in a limited run of only 35 copies by DC in 1978.

The significance of CGC Comics certifying this collection cannot be overstated. Their provenance designation not only confirms the collection's authenticity and completeness, but also highlights Farrell's extraordinary dedication and effort in achieving this monumental goal. Each comic book from the collection that carries the CGC Christine Farrell Complete DC Collection label will be linked to this unparalleled achievement.

This special designation will ensure that each piece is forever linked to one of the most impressive and complete assemblages of DC Comics ever created.”

Tragically, Farrell passed away in April 2024 after a long illness. However, her legacy will live on, as selections from the Christine Farrell Complete DC Collection are offered by Heritage Auctions in the coming months. This is a rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of comic book history, bearing the mark of one of the greatest DC Comics collections ever assembled.
