Name: Batman #33

Comic publisher: DC Comics

Date: February-March 1946

Variants: None

What makes it special? In this issue, three crooks hatch a clever plan to distract Batman by challenging the Penguin to a contest of crimes, giving them free rein to commit their own heists while the Caped Crusader chases Gotham’s bird-loving villain. The scheme works, until Penguin realizes he’s been played and tips off Batman and Robin, who quickly take down the criminals — before turning their attention back to the Penguin and putting an end to his antics as well.

Why is it interesting now? This issue spreads the holiday cheer with its unforgettable Christmas cover, featuring the Dynamic Duo in a rare moment of festive fun. It’s a perfect blend of holiday magic and heroic adventure, capturing the warmth of the season, even in the darkest of Gotham alleyways.

Did you know? Despite what the popular take on Jingle Bells says, Batman doesn’t smell.
