CGC Signature Series Amazing Fantasy #15 Signed by Stan Lee Tops ComicLink Sale
Posted on 12/19/2024
Early Spider-Man keys that have been authenticated and graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) took center stage in ComicLink’s Fall Featured Auction, which concluded on December 3, 2024.
The top comic of the auction was an Amazing Fantasy #15 graded CGC 6.5 Signature Series - Stan Lee, which realized $116,500. Of the nearly 4,000 examples of this comic in the CGC Census, only about 300 are encapsulated with the CGC Signature Series yellow label — and only five of those are graded higher than this example.
Stan Lee, alongside artist Steve Ditko, introduced Spider-Man in 1962 with Amazing Fantasy #15, a comic that revolutionized the superhero genre. Lee wanted to create a hero who felt real, someone readers could relate to: a teenager facing the challenges of life, from school and work to family problems, all while fighting crime. Spider-Man’s debut in the final issue of a fading comic series was a gamble, and it quickly paid off. Over the decades, Spider-Man has grown into one of the most beloved and recognizable characters in the world. From comics to TV shows, films and other forms of media, he has become a cultural icon.
Another copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 graded CGC 5.0 realized $43,000 in this auction.
