Love Is in the Air with a Selection of CGC-certified Romance Comics

Posted on 1/24/2025

Early romance and good girl comics graded by CGC are available in a Heritage sale on February 13.

Roses are red, love's bittersweet, drama in panels, your heart skips a beat. If you love romance comics, you’ll fall for the comics certified by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) that can be found in Heritage Auctions’ Valentine’s Day Romance and Good Girl Art Comics Showcase Auction on February 13, 2025.

Among the comics in this auction is an Archie Comics #50 graded CGC 7.0 (lot 81006). Published by Archie Comics in 1951, this comic features a classic cover by artist Bob Montana. As the original series artist, Montana played a pivotal role in shaping the look and feel of the iconic series. He also gained fame for his classic "good girl" covers, which showcased wholesome yet subtly alluring depictions of characters like Betty and Veronica.

Also available is a Daring Love #1 graded CGC 3.0 (lot 81024). Published by Gillmor in 1953, this comic features early artwork by Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko. He began his career working on horror and science fiction comics for Charlton Comics, where his distinctive, moody style quickly set him apart. Ditko’s later work on Spider-Man and Doctor Strange at Marvel in the early 1960s cemented his legacy, combining innovative visuals with a cerebral, often philosophical approach to superhero comics.
