Captain America #25

In 2014's Captain America #25, Sam Wilson, formerly known as Falcon, takes up the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers steps down. Introduced in 1969, Sam Wilson was the first Black superhero in mainstream comics. This significant moment in Marvel Comics history, as Sam took the shield and mantle of Captain America, has been brought to the big screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's latest film, "Captain America: Brave New World," with Anthony Mackie portraying Sam Wilson as the new Captain America. This major change has led to increased interest in this comic and others related to the film.

Hulk #1

Another comic smashing its way onto the list thanks to the newest Captain America movie is 2008's Hulk #1, which featured a mysterious new Red Hulk on the cover. Although he appears prominently on the cover of this issue, his actual first full appearance doesn’t occur until issue #2. Unlike Bruce Banner’s Hulk, Red Hulk is more tactical, generating intense heat when angry, and he doesn’t revert to human form when unconscious. This red giant is finally making his live-action debut in "Captain America: Brave New World," with Harrison Ford taking over the role of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross following the passing of William Hurt, who previously portrayed the character in the MCU.

Omega Men #3

Returning to this list this month, Omega Men #3 introduced fans to Lobo, the intergalactic bounty hunter with a brutal sense of humor and a penchant for over-the-top violence, quickly becoming one of DC’s most memorable antiheroes. First appearing in 1983 as a villain, Lobo evolved into a cult favorite for his wild antics and satirical edge. Now, the Main Man is set to make his big-screen debut, portrayed by former Aquaman actor Jason Momoa, in the 2026 DC film "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," bringing his chaotic charm to a new generation of fans.

Fantastic Four #209

In Fantastic Four #209 (1979), readers were introduced to the robot H.E.R.B.I.E., who first appeared in the 1978 Fantastic Four animated series, created to replace the Human Torch (Johnny Storm) due to licensing issues that prevented his inclusion in the series. The response from fans was mixed. While some appreciated the addition of a new character with a unique personality, many were disappointed by the absence of Johnny Storm, who was a core member of the team and a fan favorite. This unique character eventually was embraced in the comics, and he is now set to make his live-action debut alongside the full team, including Johnny, in the upcoming 2025 film “Fantastic Four: First Steps” — marking the team's introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Amazing Spider-Man #129

Another returning favorite, Amazing Spider-Man #129, released in 1974, introduced one of Spider-Man's most iconic foes — the Punisher. Written by Gerry Conway and illustrated by Gil Kane, this issue marks the first appearance of Frank Castle, a vigilante with a relentless drive for justice, who clashes with Spider-Man while also targeting the underworld. The issue not only presents a memorable showdown but also hints at the darker, more complex nature of the Punisher’s character, setting the stage for his return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming “Daredevil: Born Again” series on Disney+.
