Goldin Offers Hundreds of CGC-certified Collectibles in February Elite Auction

Posted on 2/27/2025

The sale features a rare Pokémon Illustrator and other collectibles certified by CGC, including comics, magazines, posters, video games and more.

Hundreds of comics, cards, magazines, posters, video games and other collectibles certified by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), including an elusive Pokémon Illustrator, are being offered in an ongoing Goldin auction. Online bidding is already underway for Goldin’s February Pop Culture Elite Auction, which is set to end on March 1, 2025.

The leading CGC-certified collectible in the auction is a Pokémon Illustrator, Pokémon (1998) Japanese CoroCoro Comics Illustration Contest Promo graded CGC 9 (lot 2), for which bidding had already surpassed $100,000 days before the sale’s end. It’s no surprise, either — Pokémon Illustrator is one of the rarest Pokémon cards in the entire TCG. Thirty-nine examples were given to winners of a series of art contests hosted by CoroCoro Comics in 1997 and 1998. Later, two more examples of the card were released into circulation by a private seller involved in the creation of the Pokémon TCG, bringing the total known examples to 41.

Also featured in the sale is a Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor, Disney Lorcana (2024) Tournament Promo – 5/C1 Lorcana Challenge Top Placement graded CGC Pristine 10 (lot 6). The Walt Disney Company and Ravensburger held the first official Disney Lorcana TCG tournament in 2024 in North America and Europe. Contestants who placed in the top rankings of the tournament received this gold Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor promo as a prize for their efforts.

In addition to these amazing cards, the auction also includes a great selection of CGC-certified comic books. Among the most exciting is an Amazing Fantasy #15 graded CGC 5.5 (lot 7), featuring the first appearance of Spider-Man.

Stan Lee and Steve Ditko revolutionized the superhero genre when they introduced Spider-Man in 1962. Spider-Man’s debut in the final issue of a fading comic series was a gamble, and it quickly paid off. Over the decades, Spider-Man has grown into one of the most beloved and recognizable characters in the world. From comics to TV shows, films and other forms of media, he has become a cultural icon. There were 3,999 examples of this Silver Age grail in the CGC Census as of February 25, 2025, and this example has an above-average grade.
