Rare Spider-Man Variant and TMNT #1 Among CGC-certified Comics Offered in Hake's Sale

Posted on 2/28/2025

Hake's Auctions' March sale includes many rare and hard-to-find comics, including a Spider-Man retailer incentive variant.

Collectors have a chance to bid on some truly rare and iconic comics graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) as Hake’s Auctions kicks off Auction 243. Featuring sought-after first appearances, ultra-limited variants and even a few unexpected gems, this sale opens on March 4, 2025, and closes on March 25-26, 2025.

Among the many collectibles available is an Amazing Spider-Man #667 Dell'Otto Variant graded CGC x JSA Authentic Autograph 9.8 (Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos). This cover was a 1:100 retailer incentive, and there are just 77 copies of Amazing Spider-Man #677 Dell’Otto Variant in the CGC Census, including 27 graded CGC 9.8. This is the first time an auction has seen an example of this comic certified by CGC x JSA (it’s the only one in the CGC Census), but a CGC 9.8 Universal example realized $28,800 earlier this year.

Also available is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 graded CGC 9.2, featuring the first appearance of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael — as well as their Master Splinter. Before they were a hit Saturday morning cartoon for kids, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were first introduced in comics as a dark, noir team of mutant vigilantes. Created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were first published by Mirage Studios in 1984. The comic was a huge success as copies flew off the stands. The comic was licensed to Playmates, who altered the tone of the noir story to a more child-friendly concept to sell their line of toys and an animated series in 1987.

Other CGC-certified comics in this auction include:

  • a Fantastic Four #52 graded CGC 9.0 — first appearance of appearance of Black Panther
