ComicConnect Offers Golden Age Comics Certified by CGC in March Auction
Posted on 2/28/2025
Golden Age grails, including early Captain America, Wonder Woman and Superman comics graded by Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®), are being offered in an upcoming auction. Bidding is already underway for ComicConnect Auction 61 on March 17-21, 2025.
Among the highlights is a Wonder Woman #1 graded CGC 8.0. Published in 1942 by DC Comics, Wonder Woman #1 marked the Amazonian warrior’s first solo title after debuting the previous year in All Star Comics #8 (a copy of which is also available in this auction). Created by psychologist William Moulton Marston and artist H.G. Peter, Wonder Woman was envisioned as a feminist icon, blending Greek mythology with superhero adventure to promote strength, compassion and justice. The issue solidified Diana’s origin, detailing her journey from Themyscira to the world of man, and introduced classic elements like her golden lasso and bullet-deflecting bracelets. As one of the first major female superheroes, Wonder Woman quickly became a cultural icon, maintaining popularity through decades of comics, TV shows and films.
Another Golden Age icon is also available in this auction: a Captain America Comics #1 graded CGC 7.0. Published by Timely Comics (a precursor to Marvel) in 1941, this comic featured the first appearance of Captain America. Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, the cover featuring Captain America delivering a punch to Adolf Hitler became an iconic image, reflecting the burgeoning patriotic fervor in the United States prior to its entry into World War II. This issue also introduced key characters such as Bucky Barnes, Cap's loyal sidekick, and the villainous Red Skull.
